Nuances in Advanced Nutrition Support for Critically Ill Adult Patients

This presentation focuses on the newer nutrition assessment modalities that include indirect calorimetry and the evaluation of body composition, as well as, recent nutrition support research examining optimal protein dosing for critically ill patients. Additionally, this learning activity will review recent research and guidelines to help the clinicians/pharmacists employ novel nutrition assessment modalities while optimizing interventions and the role of pharmacists as part of multi-disciplinary team.
Parenteral Nutrition in Preterm Infants: A review of the 2023 ASPEN Guidelines

This presentation will focus on the 2023 ASPEN guidelines for parenteral nutrition in the critically ill preterm infant. We will review how the authors systematically evaluated optimal protein dosing, lipid composition, and timing of initiation of parenteral nutrition for the preterm infant and describe outcomes and recommendations from this publication. This learning activity will supplement the clinicians’ knowledge of preterm infant nutrition and parenteral nutrition writing skills to optimize the nutrition care of preterm infants while receiving parenteral nutrition.
